Geographic Information Systems (GIS) |

The YVCOG GIS has assisted many of its member communities in their growth management activities by producing maps for their comprehensive plans and updates, zoning ordinances, annexation and so on.. GIS data is updated and maintained at the request of the communities and with information and support from them.
The YVCOG GIS has also played a significant part in regional transportation planning. Preparation of maps for transportation improvement programs (TIP), metropolitan and regional transportation plans, transportation modeling are only a few areas. Maps ranging from functional classification of roads to regional corridors have been produced.
GIS has assisted other YVCOG programs too, like the Commute Trip Reduction program. In addition to providing support to the programs, the GIS has proved useful to the communities in their grant applications and in their periodic need for census data mapping by census tracts and block groups and in acquiring digital orthophoto prints. Recently, maps are being posted on YVCOG's web site as jpeg, gif or most commonly as pdf files. Web presentations such as the TIP Projects 1999-2001 are evidence of this trend.
Primary GIS software used: ArcGIS 9.2 and ArcView 3.2a.
