Although transit usage vastly varies in metropolitan areas, only 4-6% of American commuters use mass transit. Employees benefit from using mass transit because it reduces their commuting cost and stress. It also eliminates the need for an automobile for commuting purposes.

Due to limitations of the bus schedule, it is not always possible to work a full day and commute via the bus. In some cases, the first bus of the day arrives too late for the average worker. Missing the bus on the way home can be hazardous, especially if it is the last run for the day. Bus riders are often forced to become clock watchers. Bus riders should have backup plans.
